Where to find the licence number of an online casino
Look in the footer and the terms page of the casino's own site, because the Gambling Control Act, 2025 requires an online licence holder to display its licence on the platform. Then look in the PG column of the Gambling Regulatory Authority's list for the same number. If the site shows no number, there is nothing to match.
The short answer
A licence number is printed on the licence itself, and the law tells an online operator to put that licence on its platform. Section 36(3) of the Gambling Control Act, 2025 says a holder of an online gambling licence shall display the licence issued under the Act in its online platform.
So the first place to look is the casino's own site. The second place is the regulator's list, where the same number should appear on one line. The full matching method is in the guide to how to check an online casino licence in Kenya; this page is only about finding the number.
Where to look on the casino's own site
The Act does not say which page of a website must carry the licence. It says only that the licence is displayed on the platform. The table lists the usual places to look, with what each can and cannot tell you.
| Place on the site | What you may find | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Footer of the home page | A licence statement, a company name, sometimes a number | A short line may name the regulator without giving any number. |
| Terms and conditions | The legal company name, trading name and licence details | Long documents; use your browser's find function and search for "licence". |
| About or Legal page | The registered company, address and licence wording | The page may not exist on every site. |
| Responsible gambling page | Helpline details, sometimes the licence statement | A helpline is not a licence. |
| Advertisements outside the site | The licence number of the licensee | Regulation 8(c)(i) of the Advertising Regulations, 2026 requires it in an approved advertisement, so check it like any other claim. |
Write the number down exactly as shown, together with the company name, the trading name and the address in your browser's bar. Do not rely on a logo or badge image: anyone can paste an image, and an image cannot be searched.
What a licence number looks like
On the regulator's list the licence numbers are written with seven digits, including leading zeros. A company with more than one kind of licence has a separate number for each kind, which is why the list has three number columns.
The licence forms in the First Schedule to the Licensing Regulations, 2026 start with the words "Licence No", followed by the company name, the trading name, the physical address and a validity period from one date to another. The casino form is titled "Public Gambling Licence (Casino)". If a site gives you a number but no company name, you have only half of what the form itself would show.
The number is not a company registration number. Section 39(1)(a) of the Act lists "the name, identity and registration number of a licensee" as one entry in the register, and the licence the register is built around is a separate thing.
Where the same number sits on the GRA list
The list is at gra.go.ke/licensed-operators/ and is headed "Licensed gaming companies for the trading period 2025/26". Its columns are No., Operators Name, Trading Name, BK, PG, PL, Status and Domains.
For casino gaming the number to match sits in the PG column. A number under BK alone is a bookmaker licence, so it does not confirm a casino. The meaning of the term is in the short entry on what a public gaming licence is, and every column is explained in how to read the GRA list of licensed operators.
This site also keeps a filtered copy of the list, limited to public gaming lines that name a domain, in the table of casino brands on the GRA list. Use it to find a line quickly, and then confirm on the regulator's own page.
Worked comparison
Illustrative example: a site's footer reads "Sample Gaming Limited, trading as SampleBet, licence 0000123". The company, brand and number are invented for this example and belong to no real operator. The table shows how the claim is set against a list line.
| Item | Claim on the site | Where to compare | Result if it matches |
|---|---|---|---|
| Company | Sample Gaming Limited | Operators Name | Same legal name |
| Brand | SampleBet | Trading Name | Same brand on the same line |
| Number | 0000123 | PG column | The digits are identical, with the leading zeros |
| Address | The domain in the browser bar | Domains | The same domain on that line |
All four rows have to agree with one single line. If the number is found under another company's name, or under BK instead of PG, the claim has not been confirmed.
When the number cannot be found
There are three common reasons for a failed search, and they call for different next steps.
- The site shows no number. There is nothing to compare. Section 36(3) puts the duty to display on the licensee, so absence is itself a finding.
- The number is on the site but not on the list. The list describes the 2025/26 period and the regulator's page was last modified on 2026-03-19. A licence issued later would not appear on it, so ask the Authority.
- The number is on the list but under different details. Note the line and report the difference. The route is described in how to complain about an online casino.
Asking the Authority
The published list is shorter than the register the Act describes. Section 39(1) requires the Authority to record for each licence the date of expiry and particulars of any revocation or suspension, and section 39(2) opens that register to the public at reasonable times and upon payment of the prescribed fee.
The Authority's toll-free number is 0800-723-770. Quote the number you found, the company name and the domain, and ask whether that licence is recorded as valid today.
What finding the number does not show
A matching number means the regulator recorded that licence for that company in the period of the list. It says nothing about how quickly the company pays or how it treats complaints, and this site makes no claim about any operator.
It also changes nothing about the games. Every casino game carries a house edge, so the expected result of long play is a loss. Gambling is addictive: play responsibly, and keep to what you can afford to lose. The helpline and self-exclusion details are on the responsible gambling page.
Questions and answers
Does an online casino in Kenya have to show its licence number?
It must display its licence. Section 36(3) of the Gambling Control Act, 2025 says a holder of an online gambling licence shall display the licence issued under the Act in its online platform. The licence form carries a licence number.
Which column of the GRA list holds the casino licence number?
The PG column, which holds the public gaming licence number. BK holds a bookmaker number and PL a public lottery number. Nil in a cell means nothing is recorded there.
What should I do if the site shows a number but the list does not?
Treat the claim as unconfirmed. The list is a snapshot of the 2025/26 trading period, so a newer licence may not be on it yet. Ask the Authority on its toll-free line before relying on the number.
Does an advertisement have to carry the licence number too?
An approved gambling advertisement must indicate the licence number of the licensee, under regulation 8(c)(i) of the Advertising Regulations, 2026. A number in an advertisement is therefore a claim to check in the same way.
Is the licence number the same as the company registration number?
No. Section 39(1)(a) of the Act lists the name, identity and registration number of the licensee as an entry in the Authority's register, separate from the licence itself. The licence number identifies the licence, not the company.
Can I find the licence expiry date on the GRA list?
No. The published list has no expiry column. Section 39(1)(d) requires the Authority's register to record the date of expiry, so the Authority is the place to ask.
