How deposit limits work on a licensed online casino in Kenya
A deposit limit is a cap you set on how much money you can add to your casino account in a day, a week or a month. Regulation 87 of the 2026 Operations Regulations requires a licensed operator to offer a facility for setting these limits. The regulation does not set the amounts.
What a deposit limit is
A deposit limit is a ceiling on the money you can pay into your gaming account over a set period. Once you reach it, further deposits are refused until the period ends. It controls the money going in, not the money you win or lose once it is inside.
It is one of several protections a licensee must carry, and the full list sits in what Kenyan law requires of an online casino. Gambling is addictive; play responsibly, and only if you are 18 or over.
What the regulations require
Regulation 87(1) of the Gambling Control (Conduct of Gambling Operations) Regulations, 2026 says a licensee shall provide players with accessible and real-time tools to control their gambling behaviour. Regulation 87(2) then lists what those tools must include.
| Tool in r.87(2) | What the text says | Amounts printed |
|---|---|---|
| (a) Deposit limits | A facility for setting deposit limits on a daily, weekly and monthly basis | None |
| (b) Other limits | Setting loss, session and expenditure limits | None |
| (c) Reality checks | Pop-up notifications indicating duration of play | None |
| (d) Self-exclusion | An easy to access option for a period of at least twenty-four hours | Minimum of 24 hours |
| (e) Register link | Linked to the national gambling self-exclusion register | Not applicable |
| (f) Savings tool | A player savings tool | None |
The text asks for the facility. It does not say that every player must set a limit, and it does not say what the limit should be. Any amount you see in an account is the operator's design, not a figure in the regulation.
How daily, weekly and monthly limits interact
The three periods apply together. The tightest one that is still unused decides what you can deposit at a given moment.
Illustrative example: you set KES 500 a day, KES 2,000 a week and KES 6,000 a month. The daily cap reaches the weekly cap after 2,000 / 500 = 4 full days, so the fifth day of that week allows nothing. Across a 30-day month the weekly cap alone would allow 2,000 x 30 / 7 = about KES 8,571, so the monthly KES 6,000 is the figure that binds.
These numbers are for arithmetic only and are not a suggestion of what to set. Work out your own figure from what you can afford to lose without it touching rent, food, school fees or debts.
Where to set a limit
Regulation 87 speaks of tools that are accessible and in real time, so they belong inside the player account, normally under a heading such as limits or responsible gambling. The terms and conditions the operator submits to the Authority must also cover odds, lottery rules and limits, and responsible gambling measures (r.4(2)(i) and (q)).
- Open the account settings and find the limits or responsible gambling page.
- Choose the period: daily, weekly or monthly.
- Enter an amount in KES and confirm.
- Save a screenshot with the date, in case you need to show it later.
If the page is missing, write to customer care. A licence check comes first if you are unsure the site is licensed at all; the steps are in how to check an online casino licence in Kenya.
Limits and the other checks on your account
Regulation 85(2) says identity, location and age checks must be completed before account activation and before any wagering deposit is received. A limit therefore sits on top of an account that has already been verified, as explained in casino account verification in Kenya.
Section 76 of the Act requires a licensee to keep the player's money in a bank account or mobile money, and the money held for players must at least equal the total standing to their credit. A limit changes how much you add. It does not change that protection for the balance already there.
What to read in the terms and conditions
Regulation 4(2) lists what an operator's terms and conditions must contain. Four of the items matter when you think about limits: customer deposit mechanisms (f), odds, lottery rules and limits (i), responsible gambling measures (q) and complaints and dispute resolution mechanisms (t).
Read those parts before you deposit anything. Look for how a limit is described, whether a change is applied at once, and which contact the operator gives for complaints. If a point is unclear, ask customer care to explain it in writing.
The regulations read for this page do not fix how long a limit change takes, so do not assume it is instant. Treat the operator's own wording as the rule that applies to your account.
When a limit is not enough
A limit is a brake, and it works when gambling is still a choice. Section 115(1) of the Act describes self-exclusion for a person who finds it difficult to limit the money or time spent on gambling. If that sounds familiar, read how to self-exclude from online casinos in Kenya.

Questions and answers
Is a deposit limit compulsory for every player?
The sources read for this page do not say so. Regulation 87 requires the licensee to provide the facility for setting deposit limits; it does not state that each player must set one or what amount applies.
What amount will the casino let me choose?
Regulation 87(2)(a) names the three periods, daily, weekly and monthly, but prints no amounts or minimums. The choices on offer are the operator's, so read the limits screen in the account.
Is a deposit limit the same as a loss limit?
No. A deposit limit caps money going in. Regulation 87(2)(b) lists loss, session and expenditure limits as a separate item, so they are separate tools.
Can I set a limit and then remove it straight away?
The regulations read for this page do not say how a change to a limit is handled or how quickly it takes effect. Check the operator's terms and conditions, which regulation 4(2) requires to cover limits and responsible gambling measures.
What if the casino has no limits option?
Ask customer care in writing and keep a copy. If the answer is unsatisfactory, the Authority handles complaints about licensees, and the route is described in the complaints guide linked in this article.
Do deposit limits replace self-exclusion?
No. Both are listed in regulation 87(2), but self-exclusion closes the account and is recorded on the national register under section 115 of the Act, whereas a deposit limit only caps what you can add.
